SURREAL SANDS

Surreal Sands is, in the simplest sense, a knitwear collection most closely resembling Dali-like influences. Surrealism and Salvador Dali were a huge influence for this collection mainly for the organic shapes and colors, but I was also inspired by the natural elements found in the desert. I always seem to find a way to tie my inspirations, and therefore collections, to Jockey’s Ridge in North Carolina, my favorite place on earth. I often think about being on the dunes of Jockey’s Ridge, watching the sunset, bundled tightly in an oversized, thick sweater. Windy sunsets on sand dunes just are quintessential sweater weather to me.
As Jockey’s Ridge is my favorite place in the world, I only trust a certain few people to be there with me or I would prefer to be there by myself. For that reason, I used a wolf as the mascot of the collection. The collection is about going your own way and being content in your own path. I loved the idea of walking against the wind and having incredibly loose and dramatic shapes created by lightweight knits that resemble the free-flowing nature of the loose sand but then being controlled by heavier sweater knits mimicking the sweeping ridges and hills of the dunes.
